About Brandon

I started with a camera and a passion for storytelling.

My journey began in photography back in 2016, but I quickly fell in love with the challenge of bringing ideas to life through video. Fast forward to today, and I've turned that passion into a full-time career — working on projects that let me do what I love every single day.

Through Aponte Media, I teach everything I've learned on the job: from mastering your camera settings on day one, to building a six-figure video production business. My approach is practical, direct, and built on real-world experience — not theory.

My Philosophy

My Top Filmmaking Rules

Over the years I've developed a core set of principles that govern every video I produce. These are the rules I apply on every shoot.

If there's one thing I want you to take away, it's this: story and intention matter more than gear. Whether you're shooting on a RED cinema camera or an iPhone, the fundamentals of light, composition, and narrative are what separate memorable films from forgettable ones.

📷
Gear & Technical Basics
  • Master the "Big Three" — ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture — before anything else
  • Shoot in LOG format so you have maximum flexibility in color grading
  • You don't need expensive gear to make great films — start with your phone
  • Use a gimbal for smooth, professional-looking camera movement
  • Shoot in 4K to future-proof your footage for any delivery format
  • Always clean your lens before every single shoot
  • Learn white balance, color profiles, frame rates, resolution, and exposure together
🎨
Composition & Cinematography
  • Apply the rule of thirds, leading lines, and negative space on every shot
  • Use natural light whenever possible — golden hour is your best friend
  • Plan your shots intentionally before pressing record
  • Vary your angles: low, high, eye-level, and Dutch tilt for visual variety
  • Use depth of field creatively by choosing the right lens for the scene
  • Frame your subjects using environmental elements as natural borders
  • Cinematography is composition + lighting + angles + lens choice + movement
📖
Storytelling & Narrative
  • Story always matters more than technical perfection
  • Create a structure first, then improvise freely within it on set
  • Think of your edit in "units of change" and energy levels, not just cuts
  • Use all 5 senses to enrich the world you're creating on screen
  • Divide long-form content into clear acts like a screenplay
  • Find the central meaning of your film before you ever press record
  • Authentic storytelling always beats technical perfection
✂️
Editing & Post-Production
  • Color grading is what transforms average footage into cinematic gold
  • Speed ramping creates dynamic energy and emotion in your edits
  • Master smooth transitions: whip pans, match cuts, and morph cuts
  • Sound design is just as important as your visuals — never neglect it
  • Edit with intention — cut anything that doesn't serve the story
  • Use DaVinci Resolve for professional-grade color work
  • Node-based color grading gives you total control over every element
  • Learn LUT creation and application to build your own signature look
  • Skin tone correction and HDR grading separate amateur from pro work
💼
Business & Growth
  • Batch your content creation sessions to stay consistent week after week
  • Commit to posting on YouTube for at least one full year before judging results
  • Price your commercial video projects at $10,000 or more — know your worth
  • Build a genuine community around your content, not just a follower count
  • Collaborate with brands and talent to produce epic, shareable productions
  • Specialize in a profitable niche: wedding, real estate, travel, or commercial
  • Piggyback on trending content to amplify your reach and boost virality
  • Build a production team for large-scale projects — you can't do it alone forever
📱
Mobile Filmmaking
  • Use Cinematic Mode on iPhone for natural-looking depth-of-field effects
  • Practice handheld shooting until you can achieve gimbal-like smoothness
  • Always use the back camera — never the selfie camera for serious work
  • Lock your exposure before you start recording every single clip
  • Use a tripod or stabilizer for static shots to eliminate micro-shake
  • Edit your mobile footage on desktop for truly professional results
  • Mix 360, action cam, and phone cameras together for a dynamic look

The RED RAW LUT pack completely changed my post-production workflow. The 65-point cubes hold up beautifully even in extreme grades. Worth every penny.

I shoot on a Sony FX3 and the S-Log3 pack is exactly what I was looking for. The REC.709 conversion is the most accurate I've found, and the stylized looks are genuinely usable on client work.

Brandon's filmmaking tips alone are worth following Aponte Media for. But the BRAW LUT pack sealed the deal for me. My BMPCC 6K footage has never looked this good.

The C-Log3 pack is a must-have for Canon Cinema EOS shooters. I've been grading professionally for 8 years and these are some of the cleanest conversion LUTs I've used.

I grabbed the Master Bundle and it's insane value. Having professional 65-point LUTs for every camera I own in one purchase — at this price point — is a no-brainer.
